Awesome means an overwhelming feeling of deep respect and admiration
produced by that which is grand and powerful.
One of the most overused, misused, abused words today is awesome.
When you refer to a car, a new pair of shoes, sports team, or burger as awesome is that really what you mean? Do you have deep respect and admiration for a car, shoes, sports and food? Think of Martin Luther King Jr., Gandhi, Mother Theresa, Barack Obama and my all time favorite, Jesus Christ now they evoke an awesome feeling.
Take the challenge and help those in need.
When you catch yourself using the word awesome, place your spare change in the drawer, piggy bank or jar in the kitchen and at the end of each quarter write a check to your favorite charity. You will be amazed how much money we can collect as a community. Police yourself! Be honest, don’t use the money after it adds up to pay a bill, or purchase something; forget it’s there and then put it in the bank to cover the check to the charity. This is a fund raiser that does not require a new outfit, a haircut or an exorbitant ticket price for a dry chicken dinner.
This is simple and really saves you money while helping others.
Why every quarter? The number four represents earth, world and creation. We are entering a new season. At the end of a season things don’t always look so good. Fruit dries up, leaves fall off, and crops dry up. The wonderful thing is we know there is always a rebirth, we should place our mind and thoughts on the future and watch for great things to spring up. Think of it as honoring our forty-fourth president’s wishes. We have a determined leader who wants us to become fiscally responsible and challenges us to help each other.
Help your children commit to the challenge. The younger generation is guilty of the misuse. They are the largest demographic frequently using the word. Those of you in college, who think you can’t afford to give, don’t be ridiculous. Don’t buy that extra bag of chips each week or video game this month and watch
how much change you have to give.
Take the awesome challenge. Every time you catch yourself using the word, drop the coins and make a change. There is a list of charities on the site. Use one of them or your favorite then sign the guest book and tell us where you donated. You may have a favorite, add to the list, there are many worthy causes that we are not aware of. Let’s see what a difference we can make!
Now that is AWESOME!
"I don’t say awesome!" There are some, who think, I rarely use the word awesome. This is not for me. Okay, think of a phrase or word you readily overuse or misuse. Instead of awesome, police that phrase: “No Problem” “Okay” “Oh, My Gosh” “Like” “Really” Our cup runneth over; we are blessed with clothes on our warm, educated, healthy backs. We need to look beyond ourselves and give to help others.
